We were proud to be a part of the Earshot “Golden Ear” Awards ceremony last night at Tula’s. Jay Thomas’s Quartet (with John Hansen, Chuck Kistler and Adam Kessler) got the crowd warmed up in fine fashion, with guests spots by saxophonists Mark Taylor and Jon Goforth. Then Jim Wilke took over to MC the awards ceremony.
We presented the first two awards and were happy to recognize our friends and frequent Jazz Now! Seattle artists Bill Anschell and Jovino Santos-Neto. Here’s the complete list of winners:
NW ACOUSTIC ENSEMBLE: Jovino Santos-Neto Quinteto
NW ALTERNATIVE GROUP: Andy Clausen’s Wishbone Ensemble
NW INSTRUMENTALIST: Bill Anschell
NW CONCERT OF THE YEAR: Royal Room opening, Sunday, December 18
EMERGING ARTIST: Sam Boshnack
NW VOCALIST OF THE YEAR: Jacqueline Tabor
Earshot Executive Director John Gilbreath also gave out two special and well-deserved awards for dedication and contribution to the Seattle jazz scene to Sonarchy’s Doug Haire and Cornish College of the Art’s Kent Devereaux.
Congratulations to all the winners and nominees. It was such a strong field this year that just about anyone could’ve won in any category. Be sure to check out all the nominees at Earshot.org. And you can hear a couple of the winners in our latest podcast.
