Here it is…Episode 100! That’s almost two years of weekly podcasts spotlighting all the amazing jazz music that happens in Seattle. We’re so proud to have made it this far and couldn’t have done it without your support!

Thomas Marriott – “Take It To The Ozone”
From the CD Flexicon (Origin Records)Thomas Marriott and his Flexicon band (Rick Mandyck on piano, Phil Sparks on bass and Matt Jorgensen on drums) have been holding court every Friday a the New Orleans for two years now. That’s a great run for a regular gig and they show no signs of slowing down. As we mentioned above, we’ll be crashing their gig this week to celebrate the release of Episode 100, so come on down and hang! Raise a glass with us and enjoy the burning music, like this take on an old Freddie Hubbard classic with Mark Taylor, Bill Anschell, Jeff Johnson and Jorgensen.

Tumbao – “Cayuco Ven”
From the CD Recuerdos (self-produced)Carlos Cascante and Tumbao are one of the tightest and most fun bands around! Their signature blend of Latin originals and classics have had audiences dancing for years. Trumpeter Thomas Marriott is featured prominently, as is pianist Julio Juaregui. Other band members include Dean Schmidt on bass, Jeff Busch on drums, Frank Medina on percussion, and on this track, special guest Ray Vega on trumpet.

Dave Peck – “East of the Sun”
From the CD Modern Romance (ArtistShare)Pianist Dave Peck brings his longtime trio back to Tula’s this weekend for two shows. Dave, Jeff Johnson and Eric Eagle have been playing together for years and it’s always a thrill to hear this band deconstruct standards and show off their incredible group interplay. This is jazz of the highest caliber and we’re fortunate to have a master like Dave in our midsts.

Randy Halberstadt – Chopin’s “Nocture in C# Minor”
From the CD Parallel Tracks (Origin Records)Pianist Randy Halberstadt is another gem of the Seattle jazz scene, and he’s playing two solo sets at Boxley’s this Wednesday. Randy is known for both his power and his finesse, both of which are on display on this cool track with Jeff Johnson and Gary Hobbs. Chopin would be snapping his fingers and tapping his toes to this one!

Steve Messick’s Endemic Ensemble – “Lunar”
From the CD Lunar (Pony Boy Records)Bassist Steve Messick has been gigging around Seattle for years in both the jazz and classical worlds. It took us until episode 100 to feature his music but we’re glad to get the chance! His Endemic Ensemble features Travis Ranney & Matso Limtiaco on saxes, David Franklin on piano and Ken French on drums, and they’ll be playing at Tula’s on Thursday this week. Great writing, great players and great times…what more could you ask for?

Greg Williamson – “Bahia”
From the CD Double Sax Quintet (Pony Boy Records)Greg Williamson and Pony Boy Records artists have been playing the Jazz & Sushi hang at Hiroshi’s on Eastlake for over 5 years now. This weekend Greg brings his quartet in to play, with Alexey Nikolaev on sax, John Hansen on piano and Jon Hamar on bass. They added Bryan Dickerson to the frontline for the Double Sax Quintet album, where you’ll find this great tune.

Andy Clausen’s Wishbone Ensemble – “Badlands”
From the CD The Wishbone Suite (Table and Chairs)Andy has been busy since he’s been back in town this summer, playing numerous shows with many different bands. This Sunday he curates the Racer Sessions before he heads back to New York to continue his studies at Julliard. He’ll be debuting new compositions and then hosting the jam with a band featuring Corey Dansereau on trumpet, Natalie Hall on cello and Jared Borkowski & Greg Belisle-Chi on guitar.

Industrial Revelation – “No Tears For A Wolf”
From the CD Live at the Eastside (self-produced)Industrial Revelation is hard at work on their new album, and we hope to debut some new music from them soon. You can be sure you’ll hear some of the new tunes when they play the Royal Room this week. The band is Ahamefule Oluo on trumpet, Josh Rawlings on keys, Evan Flory-Banres on bass and D’Vonne Lewis on drums.
