    Josh Deutsch – “Through The Window”
    From the CD Four Across (self-produced)
    Trumpter Josh Deutsch came up through the great middle and high school band programs here in Seattle before moving to New York to make a name for himself. He’s been studying and playing there for a few years, and he’s back for a home town show this week at The Royal Room with Steve Treseler on tenor, Dawn Clement on piano, Evan Flory-Barnes on bass and D’Vonne Lewis on drums. Here’s a composition of Josh’s from the Four Across CD with Carmen Staaf on piano, Kendall Eddy on bass and Brian Adler on drums.

    Thomas Marriott – “Individuation”
    From the CD Individuation (Origin Records)
    Thomas Marriott is playing at Tula’s on Fri. the 13th, and billing it as “The HORROR”. Got to have a little fun with it! He’ll have Marc Seales on piano, Jeff Johnson on bass and D’Vonne Lewis on drums. We decided to go all the way back to his first record as a leader to play this track, with David Budway on Fender Rhodes, Johnson on bass and John Bishop on drums.

    Barrett Martin Group – “Float Like A Butterfly”
    From the CD Artifact (Sunyata Records)
    Drummer Barrett Martin is set to release a new record on May 15th. His group has been playing together for years and have developed a tight and recognizable sound. The band features Dave Carter on trumpet, Nathan Spicer on keys, Paul Fischer on guitar, Kevin Hudson on drums and Ben Thomas on vibes. Check out the great groove on this one, which is a world-premier broadcast! And go see them at Vito’s this weekend.

    Sweeter Than The Day – “A Walk In The Rain”
    From the CD A Walk In The Dark (self-produced)
    Wayne Horvitz’s new club, The Royal Room, won the Earshot Golden Ear Award for Best Concert at the 2012 Awards earlier this week. It’s well deserved, as the new club has quickly become one of the hot-spots for jazz and creative music in Seattle. This week he brings his band Sweeter Than The Day to the Columbia City room, with Tim Young on guitar, Keith Lowe on bass and Eric Eagle on drums.

    Jacqueline Tabor – “All The Things You Are”
    From the CD What A Wonderful World (self-produced)
    Vocalist Jacqueline Tabor has been wowing crowds and piling up awards in the past year. Last year she won the Seattle-Kobe Sister City contest, and this week she won vocalist of the year at the 2012 Earshot Golden Ear Awards. You have a chance to see her this week at the Lakeside Bistro with fellow Golden Ear winner Bill Anschell, who doubled up this year with wins in the Recording of the Year and Instrumentalist of the Year categories. Here she is from her debut album with Hans Bremer on piano, Larry Holloway on bass, Ken French on drums and Alexey Nikolaev on tenor.
