Trumpter Josh Deutsch came up through the great middle and high school band programs here in Seattle before moving to New York to make a name for himself. He’s been studying and playing there for a few years, and he’s back for a home town show this week at The Royal Room with Steve Treseler on tenor, Dawn Clement on piano, Evan Flory-Barnes on bass and D’Vonne Lewis on drums. Here’s a composition of Josh’s from the Four Across CD with Carmen Staaf on piano, Kendall Eddy on bass and Brian Adler on drums.

Wayne Horvitz’s new club, The Royal Room, won the Earshot Golden Ear Award for Best Concert at the 2012 Awards earlier this week. It’s well deserved, as the new club has quickly become one of the hot-spots for jazz and creative music in Seattle. This week he brings his band Sweeter Than The Day to the Columbia City room, with Tim Young on guitar, Keith Lowe on bass and Eric Eagle on drums.
