From the CD Do It Live (self-produced)
The UW is celebrating their 150th anniversary this weekend with Husky Fest, and Friday night is “Jazz Night”. Our buddies Hardcoretet are playing along with Marc Seales and Burn List. Should be a great time! Here’s a glimpse of what you can expect from Hardcoretet from their latest album, with Art Brown on alto, Aaron Otheim on keys, Tim Carey on bass and Tarik Abouzied on drums.
Upcoming show: Fri., Apr. 20th @ Husky Fest - Tim Carey – “Waiting for One”
From the CD Room 114 (self-produced)
Tim’s got a busy weekend, with Hardcoretet on Friday and his own group on Saturday. We love his new record, which features his own compositions and wonderful playing from Eric Verlinde on piano, Brendan O’Donnell on guitar, Tarik Abouzied on drums and Jeff Busch on percussion. He’s playing Mona’s with a slightly different group, with O’Donnell, Alex Chadsey on piano and Max Wood on drums.
Upcoming show: Sat., Apr. 21st @ Mona’s - Todd DelGiudice – “Quackenbush & Pipegrass”
From the CD Pencil Sketches (OA2)
Todd is in town to play at the Ballard Jazz Festival, but is also playing an afternoon show at Creative Music Adventures in Wallingford. He’ll be with a great band of Dawn Clement on piano, Jon Hamar on bass and Byron Vannoy on drums. It’s at 2pm, so don’t be late! His debut album was released last with and got rave reviews. It features Hamar, Vannoy and John Hansen on piano.

Aria brings her terrific band to Boxley’s this week. Joining her on her debut CD are Eric Verlinde on piano, Chuck Kistler on bass, Jeremy Jones on drums and Clark Gibson on sax and flute. On the gig it’ll be Tim Kennedy on piano, Ian Sheridan on bass and Greg Williamson on drums. Aria is at home with jazz and blues and brings a real classic and groovy feel to everything she sings.
Upcoming show: Sat., Apr. 21st @ Boxley’s - Randy Halberstadt –
“Woofer”
From the CD Flash Point (Origin Records)
Randy brings his powerful and sensitive solo piano stylings to Boxley’s this week for their weekly piano night. If you haven’t been up to Boxley’s yet this would be a great one to see. Randy always dazzles, and the food and vibe at the North Bend venue is really top notch. Here he is with Thomas Marriott on trumpet, Mark Taylor on alto, Jeff Johnson on bass and Mark Ivester on drums.
Upcoming show: Wed., Apr. 25th @ Boxley’s - More Zero – “How It Begins”
From the CD Between Two Conclusions (self-produced)
Saxophonist Stuart MacDonald is playing a show at the New Orleans this Friday. It’s not often Stuart steps out as a leader and we’re glad to see it happening. He’s a creative and fun improvisor and brings it every time. You can check him out on this track from More Zero, a great band with Chris Stover on trombone, Ben Thomas on vibes, John Silverman on bass and Byron Vannoy on drums.
Upcoming show: Fri., Apr. 20th @ New Orleans - The Schwa – “Western Shirts and the Creaking Chair”
From the CD Cosmonaut Cowboy (self-produced)
The Schwa plays improvised music the describe and “ambient to the avant garde”. They set moods, they create atmospheres and they explore textures, all the while bringing their jazz chops to bear. The band is Justin Sorenson on vibes, Chris Credit on reeds, Geoff Larson on bass and Bob Rees on drums. You have two chances to catch them this week, at the Royal Room and at their Mona’s residency.
