- Anton Schwartz – “Alligator Strut”
From the CD Radiant Blue (self-produced)
Tenor player Anton Schwartz splits his time between San Francisco and Seattle these days. When he lived full-time in the Bay Area he created a loft concert series in his home, and he has continued that tradition here in Seattle. He’ll be playing in his loft with Jeff Johnson on bass and Randy Porter on piano. Here he is from his most recent CD with Peter Bernstein on guitar, Taylor Eigsti on piano, John Shifflett on bass and Tim Bulkley on drums.
Upcoming show: Sat., June 9th @ Loft Concert
- Kareem Kandi – “R.I.T.”
From the CD See What I’m Saying (self-produced)
We’re diggin’ Kareem Kandi’s new record, which he recently released with the help of some grant money. It’s all original compositions with his trio of Rob Hutchinson on bass, Julian Macdonough and on drums. They’ll be playing up in Bellingham and down in Tacoma this weekend, so whether you’re North or South you have a chance to catch this working trio.
Upcoming shows: Sat., June 9th @ Blue Horse Gallery & Sun., June 10th @ Mandolin Cafe
- The Westerlies – “Commencement”
Exclusive Unreleased Track
The Westerlies is an improvising brass quartet made up of trombonists Andy Clausen and Willem De Koch and trumpeters Zubin Hensler and Riley Mulherkar. They stretch the limits of conventional chamber music by emphasizing original composition and improvisation, to create music that resides in the ever-narrowing gap between contemporary classical composition, jazz influenced improvisation, and North American folk music. They’ll be performing at The Royal Room this week with guests pianist Sam Yulsman and drummer Jason Burger.
Upcoming show: Tues., June 12th @ The Royal Room
- Zony Mash – “Capricious Midnight”
From the CD Farewell Shows – Seattle, WA (Kufala)
Zony Mash continues their run at The Royal Room this week, as they record their first album in years, Zony Mash and Horns. The original band members, Wayne Horvitz on keys, Tim Young on guitar, Keith Lowe on bass and Andy Roth on drums, will be joined by Dave Carter on trumpet, Briggen Krauss and Skerik on saxes and Steve Moore on trombone. Now that’s a killer band! Head down and be part of the recording process.
Upcoming shows: Fri.-Sun., June 9-11th @ The Royal Room
See you in the clubs!
