    Richard Cole – “A Shade Of Joe”

    Rich brings his quartet back to Tula’s this weekend. Joining him will be Bill Anschell on piano, Jon Hamar on bass and Matt Jorgensen on drums. Can’t go wrong with a band like that! The band on this tune is no laughing matter either, with Randy Brecker on trumpet, Randy Porter on piano, Dave Peterson on guitar, Chuck Bergeron on bass, and Gary Hobbs on drums.

    Anton Schwartz – “Alligator Strut”
    From the CD Radiant Blue (self-produced)
    Saxophonist Anton Schwartz continues his loft concert series this weekend. He’s brought the loft concept and feel to his home in West Seattle and this time he is joined by superb vocalist Gail Pettis, with Blake Angelos on piano and Jeff Johnson on bass. Should be a killer show in a most intimate venue.

    Q.E.D. – “Put The Ball In The Box”

    Trombonist Chris Stover is back in town this week to play three shows with three different bands. His big band is at The Chapel, he’ll be playing with Jovino Santos Neto at The Royal Room, and his trio Q.E.D. with Alex Chadsey on keys and Ben Thomas on vibes is playing Jazz in the Valley in Ellensburg. Catch him while you can!

    Greg Williamson and the Big Bad Groove Society – “Do The Willie Ride”
    From the CD Swing Your Big Head (Pony Boy Records)
    Trombonist Dan Marcus teams up with his brother, bassist Michael Marcus, his son, Max on cello and pianist Chris Morton to play the Jazz & Sushi hang at Hiroshi’s this weekend. Now in it’s 6th year, this is one of the longest running and coolest series in the city. If you haven’t been down yet, catch this great show and have some of Seattle’s best sushi to boot! Along with Dan Marcus, this tune features Larry Fuller on piano, Bryan Dickerson on Tenor, Paul Mazzio on trumpet, Larry Holloway on bass & Greg Williamson on drums.

    Eric Barber’s Metrilodic – Untitled Excerpt

    Eric Barber’s Metrilodic finds the saxophonist with Paul Kemmish on bass and Byron Vannoy on drums. The band takes the music to the edges and puts on great shows. This week they’ll be in a double bill with Burn List at The Chapel. Get ready for a killer night of powerful music! Here they are with Oli Klomp on drums.

    Burn List – Untitled Excerpt

    Joining Metrilodic will be Burn List, a band consisting of Cuong Vu on trumpet, Greg Sinibaldi on reeds, Aaron Otheim on keys and Chris Icasiano on drums. This is a powerhouse of a double-bill, and the rafter at the Chapel will be shaking for sure! If you’re looking for a great night of creative music this is one not to miss.

    Jacob Zimmerman – “They Didn’t Believe Me”
    Exclusive Unreleased Track
    Saxophonist Jacob Zimmerman graduated from Garfield High and studied at the New England Conservatory in Boston and Mills College in Oakland before returning to Seattle earlier this year. We’re glad to have him back! He’s playing a show at Gallery 1412 this week, in two duos. The first set will feature improvisations with cellist/bassist David Balatero, and the second set will featured standards played with pianist Gus Carns. Here’s a duo with pianist Michael Coleman.

    New York Composers Orchestra – “Nightbirds: Open 24 Hours”
    From the CD The New York Composers Orchestra (New World Records)
    This is a great piece composed by Robin Holcomb for the NYCO. Robin is part of the third and final installment of the Jazz: The 2nd Century series presented by Earshot. Robin and her band will play along with a new project from Wayne Horvitz called BUZZ, with Kate Olson on sax, Steve O’Brien on trumpet and Geoff Harper on bass.
