On this episode we turn the reigns over to our listeners for our first All-Request show! We had such great picks, and even a couple of audio requests that you’ll hear in the show. Thanks to all who called and emailed their picks!
If you like any of the music you hear, please support the artists and purchase their album by clicking on the CD cover.
- Chad McCullough & Bram Weijters – “Late Night, Long Drive”
From the CD Imaginary Sketches (Origin Records)
We’ve played this album a lot in the past, but never this song, so we were glad to get the call all the way from the Netherlands from Jan, one of our biggest fans. He’s also probably the biggest fan of the Seattle jazz scene from outside Seattle! He even used his vacation to come to the Ballard Jazz Festival this year and we got the chance to hang with him. Thanks Jan for your great contribution! - Matt Jorgensen + 451 – “Ibrahym”
From the CD Hope (Origin Records)
Speaking of Chad, this request comes from him! This is a wonderful Ryan Burns original written for the great South African pianist Adbullah Ibrahim. This track even features your esteemed co-host David Marriott on trombone, as well as Burns, Jorgensen, Phil Sparks on bass, and Mark Taylor & Hans Teuber on saxes. Great call on this one, Chad! - Jeff Johnson – “Dream”
From the CD Near Earth (Origin Records)
This requests, as you heard if you listened to the show, comes to us from “Peter”. We’ve played songs that feature the great bassist Jeff Johnson many times, but have never played one from one of his records, so we were so glad to get not one, but two requests for him for this show. We don’t know exactly who “Peter” is, but we have our suspicions…perhaps a certain bass player??? Perhaps we’ll never know. - Jeff Johnson – “Slow Hot Wind”
From the CD The Art of Falling (Origin Records)
Our second request for Jeff, totally by coincidence! This one comes to us from Rick Mandyck, the great tenor/guitar/piano player. Rick picked this track which features Hans Teuber again with Randy Porter on piano and Billy Mintz on drums. He also tried to get us to play one of his tunes, but that’s cheating!
Another time, Rick, for sure. This time, we’ll go with Jeff. - Steve Korn – “Hymn” and “Points In Time”
From the CD Points In Time (Origin Records)
We decided that since we normally only play folks who are gigging that we’d exercise some executive privilege and play our own requests too! This is Dave’s choice. Steve Korn is another guy we’ve played on lots of other people’s tunes, but since he doesn’t gig much as a leader we haven’t had an opportunity to feature him. These track features Mark Taylor & Rob Davis on saxes, Marc Seales on piano and Paul Gabrielson on bass. Somehow, Dave slipped in two tracks from this album (again, executive privilege)! - Jeremy Jones Xtet – “Sparkling McLean”
From the CD Awakening to Life (self-produced)
This one is Jason’s pick. Drummer Jeremy Jones plays around town regularly with The Teaching and other bands, and released this great record a few years back with Thomas Marriott on trumpet, Steve Treseler on tenor, John Hanson on piano and Phil Sparks on bass. This is a tune dedicated to the great sax player Jackie McLean with great playing by all.
Thus ends our first All Request episode. We had a great time playing your tunes (OK, and ours, too), and we’ll definitely be doing this again. Stay tuned!

Thanks for the spin!
- Matt Jorgensen
